The denotation of a word is its dictionary definition.

"Lurid" means "vivid," but in an unpleasant way.

Something soothing has a calming effect; this is essentially the opposite of lurid. Invisible means literally "not visible" - more to do with senses than having a vividly unpleasant feeling. To be attentive is to be alert or aware, which does not fit our definition above. That leaves shocking, which is a feeling of unwelcome surprise or dismay; this is correct.

Answer:

Shocking

Read the following passage.
Nutka1998 [239]

I believe this an example of complex sentence structure.

My reasoning is that most of these sentences are in fact compound complex sentences-

Compound-complex sentences contain two independent clauses and at least one dependent clause.

An example of a complex sentence is this: “I burned dinner but not the cake.”

Read the following passage from "The Patient Cat" by Laura E. Richards. Then answer the question that follows.
Softa [21]

The bolded passage uses direct characterization to describe the cat, is the true statement.

What is the theme of the story the coming of the King by Laura E Richards?

The Coming of the King by Laura E. Richards is a sweet morality tale. "The warmth in our hearts can be as golden as a crown, but working together to make improvements and treat others kindly needs no king or queen at all!"

The nest had just been built, so it was empty when the spotted cat found it. She answered, "I will wait," because she was a patient cat and the summer was waiting for her. She returned to the top of the tree and peered into the nest after a week of waiting.

Respect not just those around you, but also their morals. You should treat others the way you want to be treated.

Thus, the statement is true.
