First lets find out how much sugar was needed

1/4=1/4=2/4

2/4+1/6=6/12+2/12=8/12

8/12 simplified=2/3

2/3 of the sugar is needed

3/4-2/3=9/12-8/12=1/12

1/12 of the sugar was left
