Miles Dewey Davis III was an American trumpeter, bandleader, and composer who lived from May 26, 1926, to September 28, 1991. He is one of the most well-known and renowned musicians of the 20th century and jazz. Throughout his five-decade career, Davis followed a number of creative trajectories, keeping ahead of several significant jazz stylistic advancements. Davis, who was raised in East St. Louis and was born in Alton, Illinois, moved to New York City to enrol at Juilliard before quitting and making his professional debut in saxophonist Charlie Parker's bebop quintet from 1944 to 1948. Soon after, he contributed significantly to the growth of cool jazz by recording the Birth of the Cool sessions for Capitol Records.
