Dual Antiplatelet Therapy Using Cilostazol in Patients With Stroke and Intracranial Arterial Stenosis
Talja [164]

Background- In patients with intracranial artery stenosis, a long-term advantage of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) over single antiplatelet therapy (SAPT) for the prevention of recurrent stroke has not been proven. We studied patients with intracranial arterial stenosis who were enrolled in the Cilostazol Stroke Prevention Study for Antiplatelet Combination trial, a randomized controlled trial in high-risk Japanese patients with ischemic stroke, to compare the efficacy and safety of DAPT with cilostazol and clopidogrel or aspirin to those of SAPT with clopidogrel or aspirin. Techniques and Outcomes In patients with ischemic stroke with symptomatic or asymptomatic intracranial arterial stenosis of at least 50% in a major intracranial artery, we compared the vascular and hemorrhagic events between DAPT and SAPT.

Patients were divided into two groups: 275 were given DAPT, while 272 were given SAPT. In contrast to SAPT, which had a higher risk of serious or life-threatening bleeding, DAPT had a lower risk of ischemic stroke (hazard ratio [HR], 0.47; 95% CI, 0.23-0.95); and a composite of stroke, myocardial infarction, and vascular mortality (HR, 0.48; 95% CI, 0.26-0.91). Conclusions In patients with intracranial artery stenosis following stroke, DAPT using cilostazol was superior than SAPT using clopidogrel or aspirin for the prevention of recurrent stroke and vascular events without raising bleeding risk.

What is stroke?

When anything prevents blood flow to a portion of the brain or when a blood artery in the brain bursts, a stroke, also known as a brain attack, happens. The brain either ages or suffers harm in both scenarios. A stroke may result in permanent brain damage, chronic disability, or even fatality.

A person has eaten the first bite of an apple. How would the nervous system respond to this event?
mixas84 [53]

Answer:

A) Acetylcholine is released to initiate in the alimentary canal.

Explanation:

Food is our fuel, and its nutrients give our bodies' cells the energy and substances they need to work. But before food can do that, it must be digested into small pieces the body can absorb and use.

The first step in the digestive process happens before we even taste food. Just by smelling that homemade apple pie or thinking about how delicious that ripe tomato is going to be, you start salivating — and the digestive process begins in preparation for that first bite.

How do schema, assimilation, and accommodation work together to help kids understand their world?
gulaghasi [49]

Schema, assimilation and accommodation

Explanation

Schema, assimilation and accommodation are three important concepts in Piaget’s cognitive development which the kids adapt to learn and understand their world.

Schema is the mental or cognitive idea, concept or framework which organizes and interprets information. Schema is built continuously during cognitive development of children through the interweaving of the adaptation processes of assimilation and accommodation.

Assimilation helps a kid to take new information and add it to the existing schema or old information about the same concept. For ex., identifying a four-legged animal as a cow by a kid is assimilation of a new information.

Accommodation helps a kid to analyze and modify the new or old schema or information based on what is learnt or experienced. For ex., Identifying that all four-legged animals are not cow and they can be a horse or bullock also depending upon the difference in their structure is the accommodation made by the kid on top of existing schema of four-legged animals.
