After 9/11, the Department of Homeland Security was created as a new cabinet position. The entire job of Homeland Security was to create better security protocol for air transportation, security screening for immigrants, general screening of suspected terrorist members. Homeland Security works to protect the borders of the US from within the US. They often work with the military and the Secretary of Defense.
