One of the major ways in which the early West caused a cultural transformation in the United States is that it led to a mass migration of settlers, both interested in incredibly cheap land and sometimes gold, which created a "frontier" culture in the US that was very different from city life.
In order to ensure that they had the water they needed for their farms, the Inca built large canal systems to irrigate, or bring water to, their fields. The canals also brought water to the cities. Many streets had supplies of fresh water running through a canal.
