As most of American history experienced racism or slavery. many of african americans wanted to get out of the unfair system. the only option was to get out of the areas with racist white majority which only pointed them west. also since the colonial era, most of the east coast was already owned by wealthy plantation owners, farmers and such that in order to find land for the mostly broke african Americans, they had to become the frontiersmen and find new men themselves. p.s. it would be great if you could also include a specific time period as it would narrow the reasons down
