Answer:

Hello,

1. I think someone innocent doesn't get certain things.

2. I think for someone to lose their innocent they would have to find out that the world is a strange and cruel place.

3. Losing your innocence means that you grew up and that you are an adult. It could be bad because you aren't that innocent 10 year old you used to be. You now know the secrets of being an adult.

4. It's a good thing because you grow up and you aren't blind to how cruel the world is.

5. The Cherry thing:

Maybe He went through a dark time and It showed him what the world truly was.

Why does the author use this simile to describe the squeaky hinges in this sentence from the story?
Elina [12.6K]

It compares the hinges with something unfamiliar and scary.

Explanation:

A simile is a method for comparison of a thing with something different. It creates a realistic feeling to the situation, imagined or visualized distinctively.

Let us read the sentence from the story, as mentioned by the author.

"I pulled the heavy double doors open; the hinges squeaked like a platoon of lost ghosts."

The squeaky sound of the hinges because the door had not been used for a long time. The narrator is unfamiliar with what lies behind the door.

The hinges, compared to a platoon of lost ghosts, give a scary feeling to the sentence.

Hence, the answer is the second answer choice -

It compares the hinges with something unfamiliar and scary.
