A large wine maker would like to buy new stainless steel containers for aging its wine. It is planning to purchase a number of c

ontainers for a total of $450,000. They have 9 years of usable life and lose the same value each year. The wine maker will then sell them in 3 years for an estimated $200,000 to replace with brand new ones at that time. The wine maker falls into a 40% tax rate bracket. Calculate the after-tax salvage value at the time the containers will get sold.

Answer:

After-tax salvage value = $240,000

Explanation:

This can be calculated as follows:

Tax rate = 40%

Purchase price = $450,000

Annual depreciation expense = Purchase price / Number of usable life = $450,000 / 9 = $50,000

Accumulated depreciation after year 3 = Annual depreciation expense * 3 = $50,000 * 3 = $150,000

Remaining book value in 3 years = Purchase price - Accumulated depreciation after year 3 = $450,000 - $150,000 = $300,000

Salvage value in 3 years = Estimated sales price in 3 years = $200,000

Since the Net book value in 3 years of $300,000 is greater than the Salvage value in 3 years of $200,000, that means there is a tax saving. Therefore, the the after-tax salvage value at the time the containers will get sold can be calculated using the following formula:

After-tax salvage value = Salvage value + (Tax rate * (Remaining book value - Salvage value)) = $200,000 + (40% * ($300,000 - $200,000)) = $240,000

Hommie Delicacies produces two products (Orapine and Banango) from a joint process. The joint cost of production is GH¢80,000. F
SVEN [57.7K]

Answer:

Explanation:

Joint cost = 80,000

Orapine

cost of 5000 at 20 = 100,000

Incremental Cost of further processing =20,000

Incremental revenue = 5000* (25-20)= 25,000

Incremental income                                   5,000

Banango

cost of 10000 at 15 = 150,000

Incremental cost of further processing =  20,000

Incremental revenue = 10,000*(16-15) = 10,000

Incremental income = (10,000) loss

If  Orapine is processed further , there will be an incremental income of 5,000 compared to Banango that will bring an incremental loss of 10,00 if processed further.

Based on this , it is advised that Orapine be processed further while Banango is not

Company collected the following data regarding production of one of its products. Compute the total direct materials cost varian
Xelga [282]

Answer:

The total direct materials cost variance is $3,790 favorable

Explanation:

The computation of the total direct materials cost variance is shown below:

Total direct materials cost variance = Actual cost - standard cost

where,

Actual cost is $267,790

And, the standard cost = Actual finished units produced × Direct materials standard

= 22,000 × $12

= $264,000

Now put these values to the above formula

So, the value would equal to

= $267,790 - $264,000

= $3,790 favorable

Answer:

The liability reported is closest to $107,105.21.

Explanation:

This can be calculated using the formula for calculating the present value of an ordinary annuity as follows:

PV = P * ((1 - (1 / (1 + r))^n) / r) …………………………………. (1)

Where;

PV = Present value or the the liability reported  =?

P = Annuity payment = $22,000

r = Student's desired return rate = 10%, or 0.10

n = number of years = 7

Substitute the values into equation (1) to have:

PV = $22,000 * ((1 - (1 / (1 + 0.10))^7) / 0.10)

PV = $22,000 * 4.86841881769293

PV = $107,105.21

Therefore, the liability reported is closest to $107,105.21.
