Why the horses developed an oxygen debt when they exercised.

Answer:

The horses developed an oxygen debt when they exercise because they suffered from Exercise-Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage (EIPH).

Explanation:

A temporary shortage of oxygen in the body tissues during physical exertion such as exercise or a sudden burst of activity is referred to as oxygen shortage.

Horses (compared to humans) are uniquely designed to experience little or none of this.

When the body takes up oxygen, it reacts with glucose to produce energy. This is called Aerobic respiration.

There is also another procedure that the body uses to produce energy. This occurs when glucose is broken down in the cells. After this happens, lactic acid is created but cannot be stored in the body and must be expelled.

This interval when energy is produced without the presence of oxygen is called "oxygen debt".

When a horse is fit, its breathing quickly returns to normal. The longer the time taken for the breathing to return to normal, the less fit the horse is.

One of the factors that can reduce the fitness of a horse is the Exercise-Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage (EIPH).

This occurs when blood vessle in the lung ruptures causing blood to bleed into the airways. So blood occupies space where oxygen should have. This reduced the amount of oxygen delivered to the blood stream. Hence the oxygen debt takes longer to be repaid.

The diameter of a typical eukaryotic cell is approximately ten times the diameter of a typical prokaryote. What is the ratio of
Alenkinab [10]

Answer:

The correct answer is - 1000:1

Explanation:

Prokaryotic cells are unicellular organism of the domain prokaryotes and archaea. These cells lacks cell organelles however other components such as plasma membrane, cytoplasm and DNA. The size of the prokaryotic cell ranges between 0.1 to 5.0 µm.

On other hand eukaryotic cells also contain cellular structure like plasma membrane DNA , cytoplasm but also include true nucleus and other cell organelles that are double membrane bounded. The average cell size of these cells are tend to be - 10 to 100 of the cell size

Thus, the correct answer is - 1000:1.

Which of the following statements regarding the chemical mediators of inflammatory responses is NOT true? A. They may be secrete
Veronika [31]

The correct answer is: D. They are all peptides.

Mediators of inflammation released by certain type of cell have a function to control the later accumulation and activation of other cells. Chemical mediators of inflammatory responses are soluble, diffusible molecules that can act locally (at the site of tissue damage / infection) or at distant sites. These mediators include vasoactive amines and peptides, eicosanoids, proinflammatory cytokines. They respond to  inflammatory process by preventing further tissue damage and ultimately resulting in restoration of tissue function.

You have a culture of bacteria that you suspect is either staphylococcus aureus or streptococcus pyogenes. is there any morpholo
Leona [35]

Yes. <em>Staphylococcus</em><em> aureus</em> differs from Staphylococcus <em>pyogenes</em> because it grows in clusters, whereas Chain-like  growth.

Although all infections have the potential to be dangerous, Staphylococcus is associated in the microbiological literature. <em>Staphylococcus</em><em> aureus </em>tends to cause more widespread illness, such as the development of abscesses and purulent discharge. Between erysipelas to necrotizing fasciitis, <em>Staphylococcus </em><em>pyogenes</em> has been associated to a wide range of illnesses.

In order to distinguish between staphylococci that are catalase positive and catalase negative, the catalase test is crucial. Agar slants or broth cultures are flooded with several drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide to conduct the test. Cultures that have catalase immediately bubble. Gram-positive cocci include streptococci and staphylococci. Streptococci develop in chains, whereas Staphylococci form clumps. Because Staphylococci may make catalase, they can be distinguished using the catalase test.
