Answer:

Imitation entails a cognitive process that is usually sophisticated. When imitating the facial expressions of an adult, an infant has to recognize facial expression, keep the expression’s representation in memory, and translate that abstract representation in real action. Therefore, the varying opinions on when infants are able to imitate adults are linked to varying theories regarding cognitive development in infants. This is because the cognitive abilities of infants are inferred from methodological limitations and behavior and these add to debate on when actual imitation occurs. If imitation is considered broadly to include infant’s imitative behavior of the caregiver, imitation’s importance in infant development can be seen as having a vital role to play in the infant’s formation of relationships as well as the early social skills. Nevertheless, it is important to consider the role that is played by imitation in the early development of a child alongside the other influences which include factors that are predetermined genetically, individual variations in temperament and environmental factors.

A sentence that combines two or more complete thoughts without using proper punctuation is known as
il63 [147K]
a run-on

A run-on sentence is a sentence that has two or more complete thoughts without proper punctuation. This makes the sentence grammatically incorrect. For example: I have a dog she runs fast. There are two complete ideas, but they aren't punctuated correctly. It's also missing a conjunction. Two join the ideas, it must be changed to: I have a dog, and she runs fast.
A fragment is an incomplete sentence. Most fragments are dependent clauses. For example: Since the dog runs fast. This is a fragment because of the word "since". Since tells you that there should be some follow up information about the dog running fast. Since the dog runs fast, she must always be on a leash.

Which choice contains the correct punctuation?
Sedaia [141]
A) Here is what my mother said to me, at least once: "Jerry, you've got to try a little harder."

Since the quotation from his mother is set off from the rest of the sentence, not continuing it, a colon is appropriate. Additionally, the comma before "at least once" is correct and after "Jerry" is also correct.

bogdanovich [222]

Answer:

"Till at last there was only one small fish left in all the sea, and he was a small 'Stute Fish, and he swam a little behind the Whale's right ear, so as to be out of harm's way. Then the Whale stood up on his tail and said, 'I'm hungry."

Explanation:

The part of the excerpt that best demonstrates that the author's purpose is to entertain children with a humorous story is the second one.

We have two animals that speak to each other as if they were people. Both of them could be amusing to children - one is a small fish, and the other is a big hungry whale that can stand on its tail. The story also has a rhythm, which makes the story more dynamic and interesting to children.
