Pride and Prejudice is set primarily in the county of Hertfordshire, about 50 miles outside of London. The story centers on the the Bennet family, particularly Elizabeth. The novel opens at Longbourn, the Bennet family's estate. Mr. and Mrs. Bennet have five children: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia. The family engages in a conversation about Mr. Bingley, "a single man of large fortune" who will be renting the nearby estate of Netherfield Park. Mrs. Bennet sees Mr. Bingley as a potential suitor for one of her daughters.

The Bennets first meet Mr. Bingley and his companions at the Meryton Ball. The townspeople conclude that Mr. Bingley is perfectly amiable and agreeable. Meanwhile, Mr. Bingley takes an immediate liking to Jane Bennet. Mr. Bingley's friend Mr. Darcy, however, snubs Elizabeth. The community decides that Darcy is proud and disagreeable because of his reserve and his refusal to dance. Jane finds Bingley's sisters - Caroline and Mrs. Hurst - to be amiable, but Elizabeth sees them as arrogant.

How does the author balance the suspense of Scene 4 with the sadness of Scene 5? in anne frank
Zielflug [23.3K]

Answer:

The author balances the suspense in scene 4 with the sadness in scene 5, using foreshadowing.

Explanation:

Foreshadowing is a literary technique where the author advances a situation that will happen later in the narrative. This can be seen in scene 4 where Anne has a dream that her family will be captured by the Nazis. The dream terrifies her and makes her screams wake up everyone who is asleep, the screams provide suspense and an omen about what may happen in the future.

In scene 5, Anne and all the Jews in the secret annex are celebrating hanuka, that's when they hear a noise downstairs and are apprehensive, because they believe the Nazis have found them. This apprehension is related to Anne's dream.

However, over time they discover that he was not a thief, but all the fear they felt changes their desire to celebrate the hanuka and makes everyone saddened by the situation they are living in.

C. Setting

Explanation:

In a short view, the reader has in front of him/her situation that is dynamics and full of tension. The writer uses a setting to show how this situation is going to develop further. This creates a tense and uptight atmosphere where error can lead to the fall of the character.

Setting can be described as a time and the place of the action. The reader can see positions of characters, current situation and what are they doing.
