Neutrophils are a type of white blood cells and when there is a reduction in their number in the body then such a condition is termed as neutropenia.
Filgrastim is a bone marrow stimulant that is a recombinant form of DNA and acts as the granulocyte-colony stimulating factor and hence, stimulates the bone marrow to produce neutrophils.
Therefore, when the client is diagnosed with neutropenia that is low neutrophil count it is necessary to increase the neutrophil count and for this purpose filgrastim is prescribed.
