Answer: You should of course read it first, read through it twice. Look at the title, look for hidden meaning within the words, try and analyze what it could represent or see if you can infer anything from it. Look for hints and such that tells you who is telling the poem, look for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, persona. Search for mood and tone. The setting, emotions, and time it takes place. Try and paraphrase. If you know what the words are saying, try and narrow it down, make it more simplistic to comprehend. Finally, see how you feel, re-read it again, and compare your thoughts and feelings to what is being said, by whom, and for what reason.

Explanation: Analyzing takes some time, but i hope this helps with the process of it :)

Reason being is because a comma is essentially a pause in a sentence.  Sometimes that isn't the case.  However, ninety percent of the time its a pause simply think about where a pause should be in any sentence.
