The First GPS was made available to the public this year as earlier it was under the control of the U.S military and used for strategic purposes. As they feared that giving it to the public could cause a potential loss or damage to the integrity of the country.
Originally developed by the military for surveillance and monitoring program it consisted of 24 satellite systems and each satellite transmitted unique signals that were decoded to compute the precise location of satellites.
