Yes, whenever an object blocks light the area of darkness expands. For example when the moon blocks the sun completely during an eclipse causing a large area of earth to be completely dark as if it was nighttime during daytime.
If you are talking about Anime or Cartoons then its Anime because the dresses, body structure are very detailed while cartoons are not as detailed as Anime
