1. A plantation in the American Southern Colonies were different from farms in several ways. Size - plantations were vast property expanses. A plantation could often be subdivided into 4 or more good sized farms. They also had many different buildings- a barn, servants quarters, and a plantation house where the owner lived.

The people who lived on plantations - Plantations were only owned by the very wealthy and powerful. Your average run-of-the-mill farmers were generally poor or maybe middle class. Most of them could not afford all the expenses that came with owning and operating a plantation, such as servants, hired craftsmen, and the large amounts of land plantations required.

2. Enslaved african americans tried to maintain a family life as best as they could. Extended families became a big part of culture and if parents were sold, the kids were raised by extended family
