Explain the philosophy behind the concept of Manifest Destiny (how people believed they were destined to expand further west), then maybe go into how we fought over territory that Mexico had at the time like Texas and maybe the Louisiana purchase as examples of land we needed to get in order to fulfill this goal of expanding west (I guess you can mention California as well with the gold rush) I hope this helps :)
