A boat traveled 147 miles downstream and back. The trip downstream took 7 hours. The trip back took 21 hours. What is the speed
zimovet [89]

Answer:

The speed of current is 7 miles per hour

Step-by-step explanation:

Given as :

The distance cover by boat in downstream = D = 147 miles

The distance cover by boat in upstream = d = 147 miles

The time taken in downstream trip = T = 7 hours

The time taken in upstream trip = t = 21 hours

Let The speed of boat in still water = x mi/h

And The speed of current = y mi/h

The speed in downstream = S = (x + y) mi/h

The speed in upstream = s = (x - y) mi/h

Now, According to question

∵ Distance = speed × time

For downstream

D = S × T

Or, 147 miles = (x + y) mi/h × 7 hours

i.e 7 (x + y) = 147

Or, x + y = \dfrac{147}{7}

∴  x + y = 21              ........A

For upstream

d = s × t

Or, 147 miles = (x - y) mi/h × 21 hours

i.e 21 (x - y) = 147

Or, x - y = \dfrac{147}{21}

∴ x - y = 7                  .......B

Now, Solving equations A and B

So, (x + y) + (x - y) = 21 + 7

Or, (x + x) + (y - y) = 28

Or, 2 x + 0 = 28

∴  x = \dfrac{28}{2}

i.e x = 14 miles per hour

The speed of boat in still water = x = 14 mi/h

Now, putting the value of x into eq B

So, y = x - 7

Or, y = 14 - 7

i.e  y = 7 miles per hour

The speed of current = y = 7 mi/h

Hence, The speed of current is 7 miles per hour . Answer

One angle of a triangle is 3 times the second the third angle is 72 degrees
LUCKY_DIMON [66]

Answer:

18, 54, 108

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the first angle is ‘x’

Second angle =3x

Third angle=2(3x)=6x

Sum of the three angles of a triangle =180 degrees

x+3x+6x=180

x=18

The first angle is 18,second angle is (3*18)=54.third angle is (6*18)=108

The angles are 18,54 and 108 degrees

87.5% is the percent because 7 divided by 8 = 0.875 and to convert that to percent just get rid of the zero in front

-4n-4+n+8=-6(-2n-4)+5(5-3n)
IgorC [24]

Answer:

There are no possible solutions BROTHER

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Simplify both sides of the equation.

−4n−4+n+8=−6(−2n−4)+5(5−3n)

−4n+−4+n+8=(−6)(−2n)+(−6)(−4)+(5)(5)+(5)(−3n)(Distribute)

−4n+−4+n+8=12n+24+25+−15n

(−4n+n)+(−4+8)=(12n+−15n)+(24+25)(Combine Like Terms)

−3n+4=−3n+49

−3n+4=−3n+49

Step 2: Add 3n to both sides.

−3n+4+3n=−3n+49+3n

4=49

Step 3: Subtract 4 from both sides.

4−4=49−4

0=45
