All this money and material is incomparable and unable to fill the void of his deepest want--Daisy. But people are not included in the American Dream, and F Scott Fitzgerald leaves a person at the center of Gatsby's fixation because she is unobtainable, and those who wish to pursue the American Dream may not get all that they desire. They lose connections on the way to their success and in turn, The Great Gatsby is a commentary on the breakdown of such an American ideology.</span>
