In the table given we can see a significant increase on the GNP (Gross National Product)  between 1870 and 1910, this means that the income in the country got bigger; nevertheless this aspect does not assure that people´s life got better. Firstly because we don´t know exactly if income was increased equally or only the rich became richer.

Second, we also see an increase on employed children and also more people moving to the city and leaving rural spaces. Making children work goes against human rights and maybe the change on living spaces was explained by this phenomena.

Nevertheless the change on urban spaces decreased infant mortality rate and education level considerably. This two aspects are considered in the Human Development Index and represent directly an aspect that improved in American´s life.
