The Mayflower compact was considered a social contract, which greatly influenced the development of democracy as the founding fathers created a similar contract: the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation holds a contract to the people that their are certain parliaments that hold representatives for them, in other words a democracy. But as we soon find out this social contract was inefficient and failed, thus leading to the Great Compromise and the United States Constitution.
