Studies have shown that children are especially vulnerable to the effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Tanning beds expose the

skin to nearly ten times as much UV radiation as natural sunlight. With that knowledge, a law was passed in some states to prevent individuals under the age of 18 from using tanning beds. Which statement best explains why UV radiation is so harmful?
a) It can increase harmful DNA mutations in cells.

b) Diseases are all caused by exposure to environmental factors.

c) Homeostasis in an organism is increased by the presence of UV radiation.

d)UV Radiation decreases the likelihood that mutations will occur.

Hello there!!

The answer, I think, would be A.

UV radiation can create problems in the correctness of cell replication, which can result in mutated cells.

I hope this answers your question!

3. Does your skate park playground ramp design support the law of conservation of energy? Use
nlexa [21]

Skate park is a good example that maintains the law of conservation as skater neither creates nor destroys energy.

Explanation:

As per the law of energy conservation, energy cannot be created nor can be destroyed but it’s form can definitely be changed. This theory can be well justified by the example of skate park playground. According to the rules of this law a skater can never go high more than 2 meters on the ramp’s other side because it has that gravitational energy potential.

With every drop of the skater on the ramp the potential energy of the skater changes into kinetic energy. This two sides of the law justifies the fact that skate playground should be designed in such a way that it supports the law of conservation of energy.

Evolution can be guided by random processes. What is the effect called when some genotypes are lost in a small population over t
soldi70 [24.7K]

Answer:

Genetic drift

Explanation:

Genetic drift is defined as the random change in allelic frequencies from one generation to the other.

Genetic drift is an evolutionary mechanism in which the allelic frequencies in a population change through many generations. Its effects are harder in a small-sized population, meaning that this effect is inversely proportional to the population size. Genetic drift results in some alleles loss, even those that are beneficial for the population, and the fixation of some other alleles by an increase in their frequencies. The final consequence is to randomly fixate one of the alleles. Low-frequency alleles are the most likely to be lost. Genetic drift results in a loss of genetic variability within a population.

Genetic drift has important effects on a population when this last one reduces its size dramatically because of a disaster -bottleneck effect- or because of a population split -founder effect-.

24. Fill in the blanks. An enzyme is made up of _____. Enzymes can
Nikitich [7]
Enzymes are made of strings of amino acids chemically bonded to one another. These bonds give each enzyme a unique structure, which determines its function. They mostly break down carbohydrates and fats. Once a protein source reaches your stomach, hydrochloric acid and enzymes called proteases break it down into smaller chains of amino acids. Amino acids are joined together by peptides, which are broken by proteases.
