It may help you to rewrite 1/4 and 5/4 as mixed decimal fractions:
0.25 and 1.25. Obviously 1.25 is larger.
Since 1/4 and 5/4 have the same denominator, 4, you can answer this question by focusing on the numerators, 1 and 5. Again, the second one is the larger (greater).
