Answer:

Stanza 1- She uses words such as "you" and "I know" to show that she is directly speaking towards it.

Stanza 2- She talks in past tense, as if it has a memory.

Stanza 3-She seems to reference situations in which the character has been in.

"simple" this shows that she thinks of the rat as a simple creature and is almost mad at others for wanting to be angry at the rat.

I think the rat could represent what people see as the "bottom of society". We are so quick to judge others for their simple actions, or rather, actions that differ from ours. It is represented clearly in this poem that she thinks of the rat just like everyone else.
