Because of what was going on in Europe the resources/ attention towards he colonies would change. If a war was occurring in Europe than countries with colonies might be shipping more resources like timber in from the colonies.

I believe it would be that the military alliance wpuld suggest in better machinery
Because they were being bossed around by Great Britain. Think of high taxes, and limitations on how far west the colonies could expand, these were all put in place by Britain, and America didn't exactly get along with their rules.
