C-NEO
Why is an element considered a pure substance?
3
zloy xaker [14]

Pure substances are either elements or compounds. Elements can NOT be separated into other types of matter (physically or chemically). Therefore, elements are pure substances. Ex: Hydrogen gas is a pure substance, as it is made up of only Hydrogen atoms or molecules.

What name is given to the process by which detritivores return carbon to the atmosphere? What name is given to the process by wh
tensa zangetsu [6.8K]

1. Answer;

-Decomposition

The process by which detritivores return carbon to the atmosphere is decomposition.

Explanation;

-Decomposers, organisms that break down organic compounds (which eventually leads to mineralization, the process of turning organic material into inorganic material). Decomposition releases compounds sequestered in non-living organic matter. This may include whole dead organisms, fragments such as leaves, fecal matter, or practically anything you throw into the compost pile.

-Decomposition occurs in three stages, always beginning with dead organic matter and involving many bacteria, fungi, and detritus feeders. Since this dead organic matter can be complex, there must be a succession of species to complete the process.

2. Answer;

-Algae

Algae removes carbon from the atmosphere.

Explanation;

-CO2 is removed from the atmosphere primarily by photosynthesis and returned by respiration. Land plants, algae and cyanobacteria (autotrophic organisms or producers) are converting inorganic carbon (atmospheric CO2, dissolved CO2) in organic carbon (biomass).

-All algae contain chlorophyll even though they may not appear green. Some algae are red or brown in color this is because they contain more red or brown.pigments (colour). Chlorophyll is like a factory within algae and is used to make its own sugars. These sugars are called glucose. All algae cells contain chlorophyll. Algae also need carbon dioxide to make sugars. Algae are good for the environment as they absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and use it to make energy.

3. Answer;

-Dead organic matter and excreted wastes

Detritus is composed of dead organic matter and excreted wastes.

Explanation;

-Detritivores are also referred to as decomposers who get their energy from detritus; eaten by secondary and tertiary consumers. There are many examples of detritivores; some of them include millipedes, dung beetles, earthworms, fiddler crabs and sea cucumbers. Earthworms eat decaying plant and animal matter in the soil.

-Decomposers break down the dead organisms through decomposition while the detritivores consume the decaying organisms.
