Prefixes are elements used in word formation by the derivation process. Prefixes are morphemes that are placed before radicals primarily in order to change their meaning and rarely produce changes in the grammatical class of the primitive word. Each word can only have a prefix according to its meaning, just as each word can only have a suffix.
On the other hand, the root of a word is the term that refers to the meaning of the word according to its historical horigem. The root of the word represents the basic part of that word, represents the origin. Like the prefix, the root of the word is unique and each word has only one root.
