Answer:

Throughout history, kids have always participated and played in youth sports and have enjoyed it. However, lately, youth sports have become less exciting and more of a stressful experience among kids. It is becoming too much pressure to handle, puts children in danger of physical risk, and just takes too much effort. Youth sports are harming young people more than helping them.

The first reason for discontinuing youth sports is that it is becoming too much pressure for kids. More specifically, too much of the pressure that fans and parents put on them to do good. It becomes a lot more stress than they can handle. Source 1 backs this up by saying that a lot of fans have teased or gotten angry at kids, and some of the parents get angry when they don’t play up to par. I have seen this happen at baseball games when angry spectators decided to scream at the fielders for not making a slightly harder catch, and it is very disheartening to watch the kids think they are the problem. Youth sports also causes an emotional toll on players. Most of the less talented players are left behind in the dust, with only small, cheap, summer camps and less self-confidence in themselves, while more talented, taller, and faster players get scholarships and have a feeling of superiority. Source 2 even states that “Children are playing fewer sports, and the less talented are left behind in recreational leagues with poor coaching, uneven play, and the message that they aren't good enough. Seventy percent of kids quit sports by age 13.”. This shows how much more biased youth sports leagues are towards kids that are more talented and physically better than others. Overall, the stress that these leagues put on children is not worth it.

The second reason for discontinuing youth sports is that it puts kids in danger of physical injury. Overuse and excessive practice can lead to serious fatigue that could impact players greatly. Even things such as too much exercises and repetitive running laps could make a kid excessively tired and exhausted, making them want to stop playing and lose interest. Also, source 1 highlights that, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, most injuries in youth sports are caused by just overuse and too much training. This statement proves that youth sports’ repetitive training and overwork can have serious consequences. Injuries are also a big portion of youth sports that can have an extremely big influence on kids. Severe complications could even lead to trauma or disability, making a player’s mental health and physical health unwell. Source 1 supports this saying that “...These injuries--stress fractures, ruptured ligaments, and growth-plate injuries*--can be quite serious, and many can cause lifelong problems.”. Injuries like these could majorly harm an athlete, and even end their career in sports. Youth sports is not as beneficial as it may seem.

All in all, youth sports are harming young people. They put excessive stress on athletes, put kids in danger of physical risk, and take too much effort. Clearly, youth sports should not be allowed to continue anymore.
