The fall of the Roman Empire had a major impact on Western Europe.
It resulted to the loss of technological and economic progress. There was disruption of trade, merchants faced invasions, their businesses collapsed and the Europen cities and towns were destroyed and abandoned as economic and political centers.
The population in western Europe further became rural as the Roman centers of trade collapsed, breakdown of infrastructure i.e., roads and drainage systems.

Answer:

The collapse of Rome was a catastrophe for western Europe and western civilization as well.

Rome's fall ended the ancient world and the Middle Ages began. These “Unlighted Ages” brought the end to much that was Roman. The West fell into chaos. Since Rome was no longer a trade hub many commerce routes were not used anymore. The network of roads that Romans had built started to vanish. The drainage system built by Romans suffered the same fate. However, while much was lost, western civilization still owes a debt to the Romans.
