Conformity and Communism started out of the drive to try and fix the U.S economy after the events of WWII. After the war a lot of U.S economic resources went to helping Europe rehabilitate itself to financial sufficiency after what damage has been done due to the war’s aftermath on the nation, and with the declining the U.S’s own economy, there was needed to be a change to ensure a rise in financial sufficiency. Luckily due to the war, many citizens had high surplus of money saved, and with the demands and eagerness to spend their savings, many businesses expanded production which caused a rise in America’s overall producing, and caused a sense of economic prosperity in the Nation, similar to the Roaring Twenties, also similar to the roaring twenties, it has been standardized in homes that many luxurious and popularized items were in one’s home.
The problem with this change in conformity and consumerism, is that while it did bring economic prosperity to the nation it also caused a lot of the American people to be too endorsed with these new economic norms in society, where many problems would start to show in society. Many women indulged in education, and new rights tend to neglect their housework, according to Document 5: Adlai Stevenson, commencement address to women graduates at Smith College, June 1955. Americans who gained popularity from this economic prosperity became part of many tasks and jobs of which they only got into because of their financial standing, despite their skill, and society as a whole started to neglect the problems and issues in the U.S. Things have become more about the pop culture standing, instead of actually realizing many of the problems at hand that was going on in the U.S at this time.
