English

andre [41]3 years ago

Answer:

I think I am a great person but I have flaws like everybody else. I try my hardest to be kind to others and help people the best that I can. Things get rough sometimes but I am great and pushing through it. My past (mainly talking about last school year) wasnt the best, I focused on other peoples opinions rather than my own. Sometimes people like to bring up my past but I brush it off because I am an amazing person now. I have learned to surround myself with less toxic people who actually make me happy. Ide like to say I am a unique person and am fun to be around. I do not seek validation from others. I love almost everything about myself and learned to embrace my flaws rather than drag myself for them.  I like to think that I am an attractive person. I think that if people are going to talk about me it is their loss because I am great and they just seek validation. I am confident and an extrovert who likes to be around people. Overall, Ide say I am a good human being.

Assignment: Reflective Essay
Arturiano [62]

Poverty: it is easier said than done

Social studies teachers have always given lessons about the causes of poverty at college. They tend to look very concerned about the issue. Although they will never teach how to solve the problem of poverty, they make us think about solutions. However, in my opinion, they like lecturing us on poverty but they do not like facing real poverty. It is easier for them to talk about poverty than to do something about it.

To exemplify my point, I can describe what a teacher of mine did some weeks ago. Laura Sanders is her name- she is still teaching at college- . She has been teaching Social Studies for many years. She loves giving books and notes about authors who analyse poverty. All her classes finish with these words: " You have to do something about poverty. Have you ever thought about the drunk people in the streets?".

Alcoholism seemed to be related to poverty for Laura Sanders. Therefore, some weeks ago I asked her why she always mentioned the drunk people in the streets. She answered my question. She gave a long explanation about the connection: in her opinion , poor people felt miserable and needed alcohol to feel better. However, drunk people might be dangerous for the people in the cities. As a conclusion, she wanted us to help the drunk people in the streets. In her opinion, we had to start with the drunk people in our neighbourhoods.

Guilt was more real than help. I always felt guilty after Sander's classes; I could not  feel helpful. I did not know how to help the angry drunk people in the streets. Some weeks ago, after Sander's class, I felt very worried. I left college late in the evening. I saw Laura Sanders leaving college at the same time. I was walking behind my teacher when I saw something strange. There was a drunk man lying near the bus stop opposite college. Sanders saw the bus. People were getting on the bus. Sanders  ran to catch it; she stepped over the drunk man to catch the bus!! I got paralised.

My term ended and I sat for my Social Studies exam. One of the points in the exam was to reflect upon the number of drunk and poor people in the streets. I could not write my full reflection but I could write this question: " Are the drunk people near bus stops less drunk than the people in books?". I failed my exam. Laura Sanders is still teaching about the connection of alcoholism and poverty.

Dramatic irony examples on oedipus the king scene 3 quotes plzz
VashaNatasha [74]

Answer:

Oedipus says:

'I did not think it fit that I should hear

of this from messengers but came myself,

I Oedipus whom all men call the Great.'

The play opens with a scene already full of dramatic irony. The city of Thebes is suffering from a plague and the people have turned to their king, Oedipus, for help. In the past, he saved them from the Sphinx, so they trust that he can solve this problem as well. Of course, neither the citizens of Thebes nor Oedipus himself realize that he is the reason for the curse on the city.

Oedipus states:

'Whoe'er he be, I order

That… all men from their houses banish him;

Since it is he contaminates us all,

Even as the Pythian oracle divine

Revealed but now to me.'

At this point in the play, an oracle has told Oedipus that there is a plague in the city of Thebes because the former king's murderer has never been found and punished. In this quote, Oedipus is referring to the murderer; he declares that once found, the murderer must be banished. This is dramatic irony because although we know Oedipus murdered King Laius, Oedipus doesn't, which means he also doesn't realize he's banishing himself. It's also interesting that he mentions the oracle revealing something to him, since it was an oracle early in his life who warned him about killing King Laius.

Oedipus says:

'On these accounts I, as for my own father,

Will fight this fight, and follow out every clue,

Seeking to seize the author of his murder.'

Again, Oedipus insists that he'll make sure Laius's murderer is punished, unknowingly cursing himself. He says that he'll search out the murderer with all his might, as he would for his own father. The declaration is an example of dramatic irony because he vows to find the murderer of his own father… he just doesn't realize Laius is his father or that he is the murderer, as we do.

The prophet Tiresias says:

'I say you know not in what worst of shame

You live together with those nearest you,

And see not in what evil plight you stand.'
