Answer:

x = - 1

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

4x = x^2 - 5               Transfer 4x to the right side.

Solution

x^2 - 4x - 5 = 0          Factor

(x - 5)(x + 1)

You want the negative solution. That means that the middle sign must be plus.

x + 1 = 0                   Subtract 10 from both sides

x = - 1                       Ten on the left disappears by the subtraction process.

Is that correct?

4x = x^2 - 5

x = - 10

4*(-1) = (-1)^2 - 5

-4  = ? 1 - 5

-4 = - 4

and it does work.

If x^3+ax^2-18x+b = (x+5)(x-4)(x+2) what is a and b
blondinia [14]

♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

(x + 5)(x - 4)(x + 2) =

(x + 5) ({x}^{2}  - 2x - 8) =

{x}^{3}  - 2 {x}^{2}  - 8x + 5 {x}^{2}  - 10x - 40 =  \\

{x}^{3}  + 3 {x}^{2}  - 18x - 40

_________________________________

Compare :

{x}^{3}  + 3 {x}^{2}  - 18x - 40

{x}^{3}  + a {x}^{2}  - 18x + b

Thus :

a = 3

and

b =  - 40

A certain region would like to estimate the proportion of voters who intend to participate in upcoming elections. A pilot sample
sweet [91]

Answer: 183

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A pilot sample of 50 voters found that 33 of them intended to vote in the election.

i.e. \hat{p}=\dfrac{33}{50}=0.66

and the voters sampled = 50

Significance level : \alpha=1-0.99=0.01

Critical value : z_{\alpha/2}=2.576

Margin of error:E = 0.08

The formula to find the sample size is given by :-

n=\hat{p}(1-\hat{p})(\dfrac{z_{\alpha/2}}{E})^2\\\\\Rightarrow\ n=0.66(1-0.66)(\dfrac{2.576}{0.08})^2\\\\=232.666896\approx233

Then, the additional voters need to be sample = 233-50=183

Hence, the region should sample 183 additional voters.
