this is just my idea but it looks like natives bringing gifts to spaniards i can kinda tell because of their hats and swords the natives are holding gold jewelry while the spaniards are holding swords and pikes/spears
Answer for question 1 : It looks like The Indians ( I'm going to be honest I have no idea what the ethnicity is) is giving the settlers their gold. It looks like they are being forced to. Or that they are trading resources.
