The cause of the civil war was an outbreak between the north and south of the United States. This was because both had different views on slavery. The north wanted to abolish it, whereas the the south wanted it to stay in place. So they went to war with each other. The north came out victorious and the slaves were set free and with the signing of the emancipation proclamation, slavery as a whole, was abolished. This, in turn changed the course of the United States completely. In my opinion, it benefited the US more positively than negatively. President Lincoln, most importantly had abolished slavery, meaning that oppressed black people were set free. This also could pave the way for a population growth and also promote multiculturalism. I will not go too much into the positives and negatives so i will only name some negatives. Negative impacts however, also arose. President Lincoln was later assassinated in 1865 by John Wilkes Booth. With the abolishment of slavery, the KKK was established and they are still around to this day and black people were percieved as inferior to them meaning that black people would have to go through another hardship. That hardship was racism.
