Patrick Henry was an attorney and politician who lived in the 1700s. He became a strong voice during the movement for independence in 1770. He commented on the differences between the ideals stated in the declaration of independence and the reality of life in those times. He became a major proponent of the Declaration of Independence which stated that all men are equal. The reality was that there were many inequalities between the colonialists and the British Overlords. The British imposed harsh taxes on the settlers in order to fund the growth and management of their empire.
