4vir4ik [10]

1) Southerners complained that their economy was crippled by the Embargo Acts Tariff of 1828. The “Tariff Act of 1828”, also called the “Tariff of Abominations” by Southern states since they saw this act as a menace to their economy. With the passing of this act, the south had to pay higher prices for the goods they did not manufacture and at the same time they had problems to sell their good (cotton) to their main buyer, Great Britain.

2) The South Carolina politician that became known as the “Father of Nullification” was “John C. Calhoun”. John C. Calhoun was a Southern politician that strongly disagreed with the tariff act of 1828 and advocated for its nullification. At the time of the passing of the act John C. Calhoun was the US vice president.

3) The Nullification Crisis ended when the “Congress” passed a bill to “reduce” the tariff. In 1833 the congress passed the “Compromise Tariff of 1833” and this ended the Nullification Crisis as South Carolina accepted the act.

Fill in the table with descriptions of settlers' beliefs about American progress and the beliefs of Native Americans that confli
ki77a [65]

America developed the idea that it was destined to cover the entire continent throughout the 19th century. It was referred to as Manifest Destiny. Manifest Destiny adherents believed it was their responsibility to rule the land from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Additionally, they felt that God had chosen them to take on this mission.

If the Native Americans decided to stay, the expansion of America would be to their advantage and improve their way of life. Louisiana Native American tribes were purchased in the hopes that they would migrate west to create place for settlers migrating west. However, the government's attitude toward Native Americans living there started to sway in favor of evicting them from their homes. Native Americans should be expelled from their ancestral lands because they cannot assimilate into American culture.

Manifest Destiny

 • The doctrine of "Manifest Destiny" held that white Americans had been given a divine mandate to colonize all of North America.
 • Numerous actions taken to expel or wipe out the aboriginal inhabitants were motivated by the notion of "Manifest Destiny."
 • The figurehead most closely identified with Manifest Destiny was US President James K. Polk (1845–1849).
 • Sectional tensions over slavery were heightened by Manifest Destiny, which ultimately sparked the Civil War.

Describe how people from the South, Northeast, and West felt about going to war with Britain.
mr Goodwill [35]
Answer;
They felt that they were fairly apprehended due to limited amount of supplies and army. Additionally the people in Northeast had business ties with Britain, therefore it was hard for them to go to war with their business partners. Again the people from the west and south felt and considered it a problem of the north.
The northern states were heavily involved in international trade, having the ports and ship building yards. The men who sailed on those ships were likewise mostly from the north and were the ones being impressed into the British navy. The agrarian south's interests lay entirely in the production of tobacco, cotton, sugar, sorghum and a few other large cash crops. The commerce was mostly within America and they had little interest in shipping issues.
