The lion's willingness to give up his claws and teeth contribute the story's theme of not sacrificing yourself impulsely. The foolish lion blinded by love gave away something that makes him up, his claws and teeth. Without his claws and teeth the lion  would be weak but he didn't care. " No longer afraid, set upon him with his club, and drove him away into the forest.(Aesop)" The lion is the theme, because he shows the reader what happens if you are so willing and ready to give something of yourself without thinking. In this case the lion's willingness to give up his claws and teeth lead him to be chased out into the woods. You shouldn't give up yourself for love hastely in desperation like the lion did.
