How can a reader use his or her understanding of theme or central idea to summarize a text objectively?
Alexxandr [17]

Answer:

Students must understand that there is no single theme to any piece of literature.  The more complex the literature, the more possible themes there are. Authors will help students read between the lines for the theme, either through motifs or dominant ideas that are repeated throughout the story. You have to understand the basics of the characterization, plot and other literary elements that are included in the story that you are reading.

Which of the following is a complex sentence?
elena55 [62]
For this I would choose the first choice, A. "Eileen bought pants but not a new jacket."

A complex sentence is formed by an independent and a dependent clause. An independent clause is a part of a sentence that can still be a sentence on it's own. For example, "Eileen bought pants." could be a valid sentence.

A dependent clause is the opposite, and is a part of a sentence that can not still be a sentence on it's own. "But not a new jacket." is not a valid sentence.

I hope this was helpful.

Mama L [17]

The correct answers are as follow:

a) Because he had a headache, he could not enjoy himself at the party.

b) You call me, because you are in trouble, so that I can help you.

c) When she returned home, she went to bed immediately, because she was thoroughly exhausted.

Subordinating conjunction

A word or phrase that connects a dependent sentence to an independent clause is known as a subordinating conjunction. This word or phrase denotes a cause-and-effect link or a change in time and location between the two clauses, indicating that the clause has informational value to contribute to the sentence's primary concept.

Because conjunctions have just one goal, namely to demonstrate a cause-and-effect link between a subordinate clause and the main clause, they are the subordinating conjunctions that are easiest to understand.
