Background information: This national security policy speech was given by US Secretary of State Dean Acheson in 1949. Acheson ga
saul85 [17]

The context of the speech can be placed on what is promoted on the Charter of the Organization of American States (OAS), founded back in 1910 under the name of Pan American Society of the United States as a regional agency dedicated to promote peace, collaboration and solidarity among the countries of North, Central and South America. Dean Acheson was known at some point as the architect of foreign policy during the Truman administration. The speech of Dean Acheson back in 1949, made reference to those cases when a government is overthrown and a military one takes place instead. This used to be a common situation in Central and South America until 1990s. It is important to retrieve some principles that can be found on the charter followed by the organization, “the Organization of American States has no powers other than those expressly conferred upon it by this Charter”, so at some point specially during the 1950s and 1960s, United States must find ways to negotiate and relate with this military governments which arose all over the region.

It is also important to considered some of the principles present on the charter that allows us to understand the posture presented by Dean Acheson in his speech, one of them is “to promote and consolidate representative democracy, with due respect for the principle of nonintervention”, another is how “international order consists essentially of respect for the personality, sovereignty, and independence of States, and the faithful fulfillment of obligations derived from treaties and other sources of international law”, so, according to these principles it can be said that the statement which best summarizes his quote is: The United States might recognize military rulers, but it does not necessarily support them.

jolli1 [7]

Answer:

D) I, II and III

Explanation:

i. Shelter Belts

Strong wind typically carry enough force to destroy the surface of the farm's land, which will accelerate the rate of land degradation. Usually, farmers put shelters belts at the edge of the farm to block such winds and prevent the soil degradation.

ii. No till farming

In this method of farming, Farmers avoid the use of tools that will destroy the composition of the soil (Such as shovel or rake).  They plant the crops by creating as little disruption as possible to the soil to prevent soil degradation

iii. Animal graze over plowing.

The concept is similar to no-till farming. Animal plowing usually conducted by making a buffalo carried a giant rake to destroy the soil and provide spaces for Fertilizer. Animal graze will eliminate the use of the rake and prevent soil degradation.

Women's rights have historically been restricted by the Supreme Court's use of which of the following?
Aloiza [94]

Answer:

Women's rights have historically been restricted by the Supreme Court using the reasonableness standard.

Explanation:

The reasonableness standard is used in US courts to understand whether a plaintiff or defendant acted reasonably in a harassment situation, for example, and it has been used in cases against police where the plaintiff claims excessive violence was used. There is also the "reasonable woman standard" that has been used in US Supreme Court Cases like Harris vs. Forklift Systems 510 US 17 (1993).  The Supreme Court sided in favor of Harris who had to appeal two lower court decisions that found that Harris was not sufficiently psychologically impacted for the case to constitute harassment.  The reasonableness standard can be seen as limiting because it imposes the standards of what men find reasonable in a sexual situation and coworker relationship at the expense of what women may find uncomfortable or inappropriate.
