Check the picture below.
you can pretty much just count the units off the grid.
the perimeter is the length of all sides summed up.
Philip rides to school in 6 2/5 minutes.....it takes Joey 4 1/2 times as long...
4 1/2 * 6 2/5 =
9/2 * 32/5 =
144/5 =
28 4/5 minutes <== Joey's time to get to school
Do you know how to simplify, let's say for example, x⁵/x² ?
When the bases are the same, you can just subtract the exponent in
the denominator from the exponent in the numerator. So x⁵/x² = x³ .
Now look at x⁷/x⁷ . From that same handy tip, x⁷/x⁷ = x⁰ .
BUT ... any fraction with the same number on top and bottom
is equal to ' 1 '. So x⁰ = 1 , no matter what 'x' happens to be.
Does that do anything for you ?
Make the fractions have common denominators.
rings 5 / 9 * 5/5 = 25/45
earrings 5/15 * 3/3 = 15/45
So, now we can compare 25 to 15. 25 is 5/3 bigger than 15.
or the ring inventory is 1.666666666... times greater than the earring inventory.
