Its characteristics include the pointed arch, the ribbed
vault (which evolved from the joint vaulting of romanesque architecture) and
the flying buttress. The intersection of two to three barrel vaults produces a
rib vault or ribbed vault when they are edged with an armature of piped masonry
often carved in decorative patterns.
National Origins Act of 1924. A law that severely restricted immigration by establishing a system of national quotas that blatantly discriminated against immigrants from southern and eastern Europe and virtually excluded Asians. The policy stayed in effect until the 1960s.
