Which sentences from the passage match each type of figurative language?
Elden [556K]

Answer:

Simile - Suddenly, a striped orange cat galloped toward Janine like a racehorse.

Metaphor - Tiger's purr was a chainsaw that sliced through the air.

Personification - After she closed the door, silence slapped her in the face.

Explanation:

A simile, is figure of speech, that makes a comparison between two things, using the words "like", or "as". We can see that in the sentence, "Suddenly, a striped orange cat galloped toward Janine like a racehorse." , that the narrator is comparing how the cat galloped, to the gallop of a racehorse.

A metaphor, is a figure of speech that makes a comparison, without using the words "like" or "as". We can see that in the sentence, "Tiger's purr was a chainsaw that sliced through the air", that the narrator is comparing Tiger's purr to a chainsaw.

A personification, is figure of speech, in which inanimate objects, are given human attributes. We can see in the sentence, "After she closed the door, silence slapped her in the face", that the personification is, silence slapped her in the face. Because we can't physically feel and touch silence, there is no way that silence could do the same to us.
