The Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the land. This means that any other law made by any legislative body in the United States cannot go against it.

Congress is tasked with making laws at a federal level but sometimes they might make a law that goes against the Constitution. When this happens and is brought to the attention of the Supreme Court, Judicial review takes place which is the power of the Supreme Court to examine if the actions of the legislative and the executive are in line with the Constitution.

If the Supreme Court finds that the law goes against the Constitution, it can overrule the law thereby making the law will become null and void.
