Answer: Ibn Battuta was impressed by Mansa Musa, Mali’s most famous ruler. Mansa Musa let his subjects practice different religions. However, he was devoted to spreading Islam. Mansa Musa used his empire’s wealth to build more mosques. In Timbuktu, Mansa Musa set up libraries with books from around the Muslim world. In 1324, Mansa Musa increased the fame of Mali during a journey to Mecca. All Muslims are expected to travel to the Muslim holy city of Mecca. While in Mecca, Mansa Musa met scholars of Islam (probably with gold). He convinced them to return with him to Mali. They helped spread Islam in West Africa.
