They may sound the same but technically speaking they are not "the same."

Explanation:

When something is uninteresting, the word is used to DESCRIBE something that you THINK is not interesting. Whilst being uninterested in something is like when you're choosing a career, you like some but the others you feel uninterested twoards them.

So basically, you use uninteresting to describe something, and uninterested is used to show that you aren't interested in something. It's the way you use each one that makes the difference.
