The general rule is that if |x| < k, for some positive number k, then we can break that down into the compound inequality -k < x < k

In this case, k = 3 so if |x| < 3 then -3 < x < 3

To graph -3 < x < 3, we do the following:
Step 1) Draw out a number line. Make sure that key values -3 and 3 are present (along with others such as 0)

Step 2) Place open circles or holes at -3 and 3 on the graph.

Step 3) Shade between the two open circles

Following those steps and you'll get what you see attached, which is the first graph you posted (first on the left)

---------------------------------------------------------------

Side Note: Saying |x| < 3 means that the distance x is from zero, |x|, is less than 3 units. So anything within a 3 unit radius, so to speak, of 0 will be the solution set. We are NOT including the endpoints -3 or 3. This is shown through the use of open circles. They are gaps in the solution set.

If you want the answer in interval notation, then you would write (-3,3)
Which unfortunately looks identical to ordered pair notation, but its not. Instead it means we have an interval from -3 to 3. The parenthesis tell us to exclude the endpoints.

set up and solve a system of equations to solve the problem The school band sells carnations on Valentine's Day for $3 each. It
sasho [114]

Answer:

Number of carnations = 6

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of carnations school band buys from florist be x.

Cost of each carnation = $0.50

Total cost for x number of carnations = $0.50x

Also , delivery cost = $15

So, total cost on buying x number of carnations from florist = 0.50x + 15

Now,

School band sells carnations at a price of $3 each.

Total revenue they get get after selling x number of carnations = $3x

We need to find that , when will the cost of the carnations be equal to the revenue from selling them.

i.e 3x = 0.50x + 15

or 3x - 0.50x = 15

or 2.50x = 15

or x = \frac{15}{2.50}

or x = 6

so on selling 6 carnations cost of carnation reach to the point where it is equal to revenue

Write a number between 80 and 100 that has exactly 3 factors, one of which is a 5
Flura [38]
Answer:

answer is 90

Explanation:

Here 5 is one of the 4 prime factors, so dividing the lower (80) and upper limit (100) by 5 we have new lower limit 16 and new upper limit 20.

So the product of other 3 factors should be greater than 16 and less than 20.

And we can have it from 18 only. Hence the number is 90.

The numbers between 80 and 100 having factor 5 are

<span>80,85,90,95,100</span>

<span>16=<span>24</span></span>

<span>17=17</span>

<span>18=2×3×3</span>

<span>19=19</span>

<span>20=<span>22</span>×5</span>

<span>90=2×<span>32</span>×<span>5</span></span>

Find the volume to the nearest whole number
ella [17]

Answer:

6,861 cm³

Step-by-step explanation:

First, find the volume of of the cylinder, the formula fr a cylinder is π·r²·h

π·9²·15≈3,817

Then, find the volume of the cone, 1/3(πr²)(h)

π·9²·12≈3,054

Finally, add them together to get ≈6,861 cm³
