In the 30s the US Congress passed a series of Neutrality Acts that limited the US involvement in future wars. These Acts were mostly based in the disillusionment that the population felt after World War I. The population believed that the US had to participate in the war because of loans and trade with the Allies.

The Neutrality Acts banned munition exports, restricted American travel on belligerent ships, banned loans to belligerents, gave power to the President to restrict munition sales, banned US ships from carrying goods or passengers to belligerent ports.

Shirley Chisholm--was the first black woman in Congress and the first woman to seek a presidential nomination. She used her political position to advance laws for gender and racial equality.
