Los pueblos indígenas son herederos y practicantes de culturas y formas únicas de relacionarse con las personas y el medio ambiente. Han conservado características sociales, culturales, económicas y políticas distintas de las de las sociedades dominantes en las que viven. A pesar de sus diferencias culturales, los pueblos indígenas de todo el mundo comparten problemas comunes relacionados con la protección de sus derechos como pueblos distintos.

Cyrus the Great of Persia who founded the Achaemenid Empire embraced all the previous civilized states of the early Near East which expanded vastly and eventually conquered most of the Southwest Asia, much of Central Asia and Caucasus. Under his successors, the empire stretched from parts of Balkans and Thrace-Macedonia in the west to the Indus Valley in the East.
