The reader can infer that <span>Dave is like a child because all of his pay is given to his mother.
Considering that he is still 17 (but he already wants to own a gun), he is still relatively young and it is reasonable that his pay goes to his mother.</span>
Advertising. This is something that impacted people in many ways. Think about it, when you walk down the isle to look at cereal. Which box looks more appealing? Most people would say the name brand box with a character or picture on it.
I don't think that is is motif or resolution. I believe it is either the exposition, because expostition can give you background info. on the story, in the beginning of the novel or work of fiction.
